Describe your role.
I am responsible for sales of our books in the UK and overseas as well as marketing and company operations.
What do you like best about your role?
I like being involved in the creation of the books, and discovering new places to sell our fantastic product ranges make the role exciting and varied too. Working with an enthusiastic and creative team is highly motivating.
Which new titles are you working on?
Chocolate at Home by Will Torrent is going to be sumptuous; Hans Blomquist in Detail brings a unique style to interior design; Annie Sloan’s Room Recipes for Style & Colour offers the perfect ingredients to style your ideal home; Rubber Band Bracelets, which has just been released, embraces a major craft trend and our book is destined to be a huge seller.
Is sales a good career move in publishing?
Sales is a great career move in publishing. You are involved in so many parts of the business from the original idea for the project right up to delivering finished copies of the book to customers. There is a tremendous sense of satisfaction in achieving results and there is no better way to measure them than
What advice would you give to someone looking to work in the industry?
Work in retail to experience a consumer environment and gain experience in different areas of a publishing company to understand the various functions of a publisher. Ask lots of questions. When you get your break, never stop learning and don’t be afraid to put your ideas forward.
