Publisher, Nourish Books
How would you describe your role?
I am publisher of the Nourish food and drink list. This includes strategic development of the list, commissioning projects for it (book and digital), ensuring that the list is profitable and that the products are of the highest quality.
What is the best thing about your role?
I love the broad scope of the role and the opportunities for development. We are about to launch the brand Nourish with a major blog/social media campaign. We are looking to create a strong, recognisable brand and develop an online community where we can connect with our readers and even sell books.
Which books are you working on?
We have just launched a mass-market version of our intermittent fasting book, The Eat, Fast, Slim Diet by Amanda Hamilton. Daniel Galmiche's Revolutionary French Cooking will be coming out in May and we are all looking forward to taking him to the next level, following on from The French Brasserie Cookbook.
What other roles have you had in your career?
I've worked in the industry for over 20 years. Initially I worked for a literary agent and then moved over to publishing itself. I worked as senior commissioning editor at Ebury and then lived in Sydney for almost a year, where I worked for Murdoch Books and Penguin. I have also run cookery classes and demonstrations in my spare time and I run a website (allergyfreecook.com) and blog (glutendairyfree.co.uk).
What advice would you give to people looking to work in the industry?
Competition is intense, so spend time perfecting your letter of introduction and make sure you have researched the company you are applying to fully.
