Newcastle-based indie Zymurgy Publishing is moving into children's non-fiction publishing with the launch of its first title, Monster Hunting: An Adventurer's Handbook, later this month.
Martin Ellis, who runs the company, said the move came after last year's success with The Little Book of Jokes for Kids of all Ages and was encouraged by the relative buoyancy of the children's market.
Ellis was contacted by author Alvin Nicholas earlier this year. "My reaction was that this was just the sort of book I enjoyed as a child," he said.
The title, which includes details on real ‘monsters' such as the Komodo Dragon, is an £8.99 hardback and is aimed at children aged nine years plus. Further titles will follow should this prove a success.
