Profile has signed two books by mathematician and YouTube star Eugenia Cheng.
Cakes, Custard and Category Theory will using cookery to explain mathematical concepts, aiming to appeal to people who don't think maths is for them.
Profile acquired world English rights for the title from Diane Banks of Diane Banks Associates, with foreign language rights representation split between the publisher and agent.
Cheng is senior lecturer of pure mathematics at the University of Sheffield. Her Youtube lectures have been viewed more than 700,000, and she often uses food to explain maths concepts, such as using a formula to create the perfect cream tea, or using a Battenberg cake to explain infinity.
Andrew Franklin, m.d. Of Profile Books, said: "Take one rising young star of the maths world. Mix in three parts of only the freshest maths to two parts cookery book. Sprinkle with wit and a great ability to make the complicated appear easy, and you’ll see that Eugenia Cheng has come up with a recipe for success. Tastier than Brian Cox and better at numbers than Nigella Lawson."
Cakes, Custard and Category Theory will be published in March 2015, while a second book on infinity will be released in 2016.
