Yazidis book publication brought forward

I B Tauris is bringing forwards publication of a book on the history of the Yazidis, an ethno-religious group in Iraq currently being persecuted by Islamic State militants.

The group, whose religion mixes Islam and ancient folk customs, has long been persecuted, but have made headlines around the world in recent weeks following a new and intense wave of attacks against them.

Birgül Açikyildiz's book is based on years of research into the religion, history and culture of the Yazidi, or Yezidi people, and accompanied by photographs.

I B Tauris executive editor Alex Wright said: "Everyone is scrambling around for information on these remarkable people and there is nothing available. This book is to be urgently read, the Middle East and the world would be tremendously poorer for the loss of the Yezidis."

The book, The Yezidis: The History of a Community and Culture, will now be published on 20th August 2014 as a paperback priced at £14.99.
