Y yes, says Faber

Faber has acquired a debut novel called Y by author Marjorie Celona, with the story focusing on a newborn baby dumped at the local YMCA.

Editor Sarah Savitt bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to the title through Cathryn Summerhayes on behalf of Claudia Ballard at WME. Faber plans to publish in autumn 2012.

The baby, Shannon, narrates the story of her disjointed upbringing as , as she goes between different foster homes and searches for the truth about her mother's family.

Savitt said: "I was gripped by Y from the very first line. I also fell in love with Shannon and I think readers will too." She called it "a heartbreaking and unforgettable story".
