World Book Day boosts trade


World Book Day generated more than &pound;500,000 worth of extra book sales through the UK general retail market last week, pushing total sales past the &pound;15m mark.</p><p>

According to Whitaker BookTrack figures, sales for the week were up 9.3% by value on the same week last year and 9% up on WBD week last year, making it the most successful WBD in its three-year history. But the volume of children's titles sold fell, probably as a result of the change in minimum value for redemption of the &pound;1 voucher to &pound;1.95.</p><p>
