Robin Wood is to relinquish the post of chief executive of Anova Books, with managing director Polly Powell promoted to the position in his stead. Wood, who led the £12.5m management buyout of the business in September 2005, is currently chairman and chief executive of the company but will now take on the full-time role of chairman. David Proffit, the third executive director of Anova, will continue as operations and production director, with some additional responsibilities.
The decision was made by the executive team as the publisher Anova reached its third full year operating as an independent company, the group said. Wood's new role will be overseeing the company’s expectations and strategic decisions in the global publishing community. Powell will be directing the day to day strategy for Anova with the sales and finance teams reporting directly to her. She will continue her role as publisher. The changes will take effect from 24th November.
Wood said: "I feel that this is the right time to bring a fresh impetus to the leadership of the company. Polly will be a dynamic and resourceful chief executive. I will continue to have a hands-on role but will also be looking at the wider challenges we face in a rapidly changing publishing and economic environment."
Powell has worked along side Wood for several years and was part of the buy-out team. She said: "I will relish (with a healthy bit of trepidation!) the opportunity to lead the company over the coming years."
Turnover in the financial year to end-February 2008 reached £12.6m with profits of £825,591, a 340% increase on previous year
