W&N to reissue T H White's 'The Goshawk'

Weidenfeld & Nicolson is to reissue T H White’s The Goshawk, with a foreward by award-winning author Helen Macdonald.

First published in 1951, White’s memoir is an account of how he came to train a wild goshawk.

The book was one of the inspirations for Macdonald’s H is for Hawk (Jonathan Cape), which won the Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction () and was named Costa Book of the Year.

Paul Murphy, senior editor non-fiction at Orion, bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, to The Goshawk from Georgia Glover at David Higham Associates.

The book will be one of the first titles to be branded with the new W&N Modern Classics logo.

Murphy said: “The first thing I wanted to do after I read Helen Macdonald’s wonderful H Is for Hawk was to go on and read White’s classic The Goshawk and learn more about this remarkable man. I am therefore absolutely thrilled that I am now able to reissue it as a beautiful gift hardback, and I can think of no one better placed to write a new foreword than Helen.”

Weidenfeld & Nicolson will publish in £12.99 hardback in September 2015.
