W&N buys new title by Fraser

Orion has acquired a new book by historian Antonia Fraser on the Great Reform Bill, to be published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson on 9th May 2013.

Alan Samson, W&N non-fiction publisher, bought the UK and Commonwealth rights for the book from Jonathan Lloyd at Curtis Brown.

Perilous Question: The Drama of the Great Reform Bill 1832, follows the revolutionary impact of the bill as it was created and put in place, taking power from the landed gentry and helping emancipate the working classes.

Samson said: "We are so very proud to publish Antonia Fraser, who has written an exceptional work of narrative history, one full of extraordinary characters that really does cast a distant mirror on events today."

Fraser agreed: "This is an exciting, even thrilling episode in our history from which, for better or for worse, we can still learn today."

She is the author of numerous historical works, including studies of Mary Queen of Scots, Cromwell, and Marie Antoinette.

Her last book was Must You Go? My Life With Harold Pinter (W&N), a memoir about her marriage to the late Nobel Prize-winning playwright.
