Random House imprint William Heinemann has acquired a title on the “good things” about psychopaths, with a TV production already in the works.
Editor Drummond Moir acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in The Wisdom of Psychopaths for an undisclosed sum from Patrick Walsh at Conville & Walsh.
The title is by Kevin Dutton, a teacher of social psychology at the University of Cambridge. Dutton is currently working on a TV series based on elements of the title with independent production company Oxford Films (which has pitched it to the BBC).
The Wisdom of Psychopaths will be published in spring 2012, and as an Arrow paperback in 2013. The title will examine how “unlike their box-office counterparts, not all psychopaths are violent or even illicit”.
Moir said: “There are few people on earth as entertaining as Kevin Dutton. . . [The Wisdom of Psychopaths] is going to be a fantastically original and engaging book that is sure to get everyone talking.”
Dutton’s début title, Flipnosis: the Art of Split-Second Persuasion, will be published in May 2010 by Wm Heinemann.
