Profile Books has acquired Alan Jacobs’ new book, How To Think.
Profile's editorial director Ed Lake bought British Commonwealth rights from Gráinne Fox at Fletcher and Company.
Jacobs is professor of humanities at Baylor University in Texas
The publisher said: "Thinking for yourself isn’t easy but, with the help of Alan Jacobs, it might be time to work out how many of your thoughts are really yours. Written in a likeable and quietly erudite voice, How To Think is a wise and witty essay about the pressures of conformism in an age when saying the wrong thing means risking ostracism or worse."
Lake said: “Alan Jacobs is one of the most humane thinkers around, and in this deeply acute, charming and wise essay he has written the kind of book you want to underline bits of and then thrust into the hands of half of Twitter. We’re thrilled to be publishing it.”
Jacobs said: “Profile Books is one of the most creative and dynamic publishing houses I know of, so I am delighted and honored to be part of their stable. The UK is of course completely free from the hostility, snark, and sectarian strife that afflicts the American social order, but I hope British readers will find my book entertaining all the same.”
How To Think will be published in October 2017.
