New Line Cinema and actress Reese Witherspoon’s production company have acquired film rights to Ruth Ware’s In a Dark, Dark Wood (Harvill Secker).
In a Dark, Dark Wood is the debut crime novel by Ware, who used to work as a publicist at Penguin Random House.
It tells the story of a reclusive writer who is invited on a hen weekend by her best friend from school, who she has not seen in 10 years.
New Line Cinema acquired the film rights from the Gotham Group, which will produce with Pacific Standard, the company Witherspoon formed with Bruna Papandrea.
Witherspoon and Papandrea will produce for Pacific Standard. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein will produce for The Gotham Group, said Variety.
CAA brokered the deal on behalf of Gotham Group and Pacific Standard. Ware's agent is Eve White.
