Wirral Council last night pushed through its controversial library closure plans, despite a rebellion within the Liberal Democrat ranks, reports the Liverpool Daily Post.
The full council approved the Labour-Liberal Democrat alliance’s Strategic Asset Review (SAR) – which calls for 11 libraries to be shut, along with other cultural facilities transferred into community ownership. The newspaper described it as a "rowdy four-hour meeting of the full council".
