Iconic film company Hammer Films has teamed up with Random House imprint Arrow to publish a new list, with Jeanette Winterson writing one of the first titles.
The partnership was brokered by Caroline Michel at PFD and the imprint will launch next spring and initially publish around six titles a year. Titles to be published by Hammer will include novelisations of new frontlist film releases, novelisations of backlist classics plus new novellas by established authors.
Oranges are not the Only Fruit author Winterson will write the first of these original novellas, which will be published in Summer 2011.
Arrow publisher Kate Elton said: "I'm particularly excited that we will be publishing Jeanette Winterson in Hammer next year. She's one of the most inventive and exciting British writers working today, and as such is the ideal ambassador for the Hammer imprint."
She added: "I'm thrilled to be launching this partnership with Hammer. They're already an iconic brand, and Simon's reinvention of the Hammer brand is a hugely exciting project. With the current interest in all things supernatural, the time is absolutely right for a Hammer imprint which will publish both into the heart of the commercial horror market, and into the literary and thriller markets that border it. We will be publishing books which are entertaining, frightening, transgressive and addictive."
The Hammer brand has not been in production since the 1980s but is now being reinvigorated with new investment in development and production of films, television and digital platform content. Its first film release in more than 30 years, Let Me In, will come out in November in the UK.
