William Heinemann is publishing Power: Liberation and Control in the Twenty-first Century by Carl Miller in 2018.
Tom Avery of William Heinemann acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to the book from Jack Ramm at the Eve White Literary Agency. After William Heinemann publishes in 2018, Windmill Books will publish in paperback in 2019.
In Power, Miller promises to take readers on a journey to expose new "centres of control" today, moving between the realms of politics, business, culture, media, crime and work. The research-led book will describe how power is created, applied and sustained in the 21st century, while seeking answers to the question, "do we have more power today than ever before, or are we more controlled than ever before?"
Miller is the co-founder and research director of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media (CASM) at Demos, the first think tank and technology laboratory dedicated to studying the digital world.
Avery said: "Power is, as its title suggests, a wonderfully direct and authoritative exploration of power today, and a necessary book in every sense of the word. Machiavelli, de Beauvoir, Foucault, Gramsci, Nye...and now Miller. We are exceptionally pleased to be welcoming a writer and thinker of Carl’s abilities to Heinemann."
