Whitbread shortlists Rushdie, Hornby and Aw

<p>A record number of submissions has resulted in a former postman, and a Richard and Judy competition entrant, being shortlisted alongside Salman Rushdie and Nick Hornby on this year's Whitbread book awards.</p><p>Rushdie and Hornby, join Ali Smith and Christopher Wilson on the shortlist for the 2005 Whitbread Novel Award. The Whitbread First Novel Award has shortlisted Tash Aw, Diana Evans, and Peter Hobbs.
