<p> Price competition between high street, internet and supermarket booksellers stepped up another gear last year.</p><p>The average selling price of all books through the TCM in 2004 was &#163;7.77, or 10p lower than in 2003. Even taking into account the skewing of the 2003 figure by the relatively high average selling price of blockbuster Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, this reveals a sharp increase in the volume of books being sold at high discount.</p><p>In the bestseller lists, the decline in average selling price (a.s.p.) is more significant than for the market overall. ...
