Children's publishing veteran Martin West has set up a new venture, Authorization!, which offers editorial, design, sales and distribution services to children's publishers and self-published children's authors.
West is also launching his own list, Troika Books, as part of the company. The launch title, picture book Bocchi and Pocchi: A Tale of Two Socks by Noriko Matsubara, a St Martin's College of Art and Design graduate, will be published in February 2013.
West said: "There are an increasing number of people setting up their own little imprints and publishing great books for children independently. This includes published authors with successful track records who are choosing to publish books they have written that they know have a ready audience in schools . . . I know very well the challenges faced by small houses, but there are so many opportunities for them too, particularly in today's market."
Publishers already signed up to Authorization! include Plaister Press, Playback Books, and Ashley Chappel, an author whose book, Hero Girls, will be published by Authorization! in November.
West has previously worked for Oxford University Press, Penguin, Blackie, Catnip Publishing, his own company Happy Cat Books, as well as Ragged Bears Publishing.
