The Ways With Words festival is celebrating its 20th year by launching a new family arts and books event in south London this October.
Word Up! will take place in South Dulwich at the Alleyn's School theatre space from 22-24th October, during the school half-term. The programme will be aimed at children between the ages of three and 11, an early evening and workshops programme for those aged 11 and older, and a First Words programme aimed at the under fives.
Word Up! co-director Chloe Bar-Kar said: "We are literally bursting with excitement to be putting on the first ever for Word Up! Family Festival. The level of support and enthusiasm we have had from the UK’s best children’s writers and publishers has knocked our socks off.
"Now more than ever London families and children deserve a festival to inspire them and promote creativity and communication."
Former children's laureate Michael Rosen, a patron of the festival, said: "Word Up! is a guaranteed success, reaching right into the hearts and minds of thousands of children. We desperately need this festival to happen so that children who might not otherwise come across live literature get a chance to explore the thoughts, feelings and ideas that come with books."
