Watkins buys Cygnus Book Club

Watkins Media has purchased Cygnus Book Club, adding it to the company’s portfolio which includes publishing imprints.

Watkins, which bought Watkins, Nourish, Angry Robot from Osprey last year and which will soon launch an imprint called Repeater books, also owns the Watkins Bookshop in Cecil Court, three magazines, and a range of digital platforms.

Cygnus Book Club, based in Wales, specialises in mind body and spirit, sustainability, food, health, nutrition, philosophy and new science. Subscribers to the book club can share thoughts on the company’s website and noticeboard, and in local groups called Cygnus Cafes.

Watkins Media’s owner, American entrepreneur Etan Ilfeld, said: “I’m very excited to be adding Cygnus Book Club to the Watkins Media family – its ethos of sharing wisdom is at the heart of what Watkins is all about."

Operations for Cygnus Book Club will move from Wales to London on 21st October.

Cygnus Book Club owner Geoff Napier will continue to be a “large part of the team moving forward, concentrating on the growth and development of the Cygnus community”.

He will focus on the Cygnus Café network.

Management of the book club will be handled via the Watkins Media sales and marketing team and they will look to continue the Cygnus tradition of offering the best books for a conscious consumer at the best prices they can.
