Waterstones launched a new Buy One Get One Half Price (BOGOHP) promotional offer on selected books in all of its stores today (29th March), to run throughout Easter.
It is the first time the high street chain store has held an alternative multi-book promotional offer since scrapping its decade-long three-for-two promotion last October.
W H Smith also regularly runs a BOGOHP offer.
Individual booksellers will decide which titles go into the new promotion on a store-by-store basis and have the choice of both paperback and hardbacks, although it is thought paperbacks are more likely to be included. The promotion runs until 15th April.
Jon Howells, PR and events manager at Waterstones, said: “It seems like a great opportunity. People are going to have more time on their hands over Easter it seems and it is a great time to be using this sort of means to be able to help them buy more books.”
Waterstones brought back a three-for-two offer over half term for children’s books, in a move warmly received by publishers. Last week publishers called on retailers to come up with creative new paperback promotions to counteract the decline in sales since Waterstones’ standard three-for-two ended.
