Alex Ingram, Waterstones' e-book and development buyer, is leaving the company on 16th March "to pursue other interests".
Ingram joined Waterstones 10 years ago as a bookseller. He has also worked as a travel and natural history buyer for the chain and also as buying administrator and regional buyer. On Twitter Ingram said: "Leaving Waterstones on 16th March. Chosen to leave to pursue other interests; might take on new projects, might take time out...sad to be leaving, but too many ideas in this head knocking around I've yet to have a go at properly." He added: "Ten (mostly) excellent years."
Waterstones confirmed his departure. The book chain is expected to announce its new e-book platform in the next few months with speculation growing that it will do a deal with US bookseller Barnes & Noble, which will see the latter's e-book device the Nook launched in the UK under the Waterstones banner.
