Waterstones is to delay its head office move from Brentford to its flagship London Piccadilly store until after Christmas, The Bookseller has learned.
The company confirmed last March it intended to move to Piccadilly to be closer to its customers and publishers.
Since the refurbishments needed have not been completed as quickly as hoped, the move has been delayed until after Christmas to avoid disruption during the busy festive shopping period.
At the time of the announcement, managing director of the company, James Daunt, said: “The purpose of our head office is to work in service to our bookshops and it has long been our view that the closer we are to the shop floor, the better we will be able to do this.
"The move allows us to share Piccadilly's iconic location and not only brings us closer to our customers and the books we sell to them, but also to publishers and many of our other bookshops.”
Staff in the Solihull office will be unaffected by the move.
