Waterstone's has defended stocking a book about football violence in Cardiff in its "Best of Wales" section, saying the books are legally available.
Steve Belcher, a regional official with trade union Unison, made the complaint after discovering two books by Annis Abraham Junior – Diary Of The Real Soul Crew and Diary Of The Real Soul Crew 2 – for sale on shelves apparently showcasing the best of Wales.
He said: "I went into Waterstone’s in Cardiff and was shocked to see in a section entitled ‘Pride Of Wales’ books devoted to and praising football violence amongst Cardiff City fans. I have asked for them to be removed or placed in a more appropriate section, perhaps relating to criminals."
A spokesperson for Waterstone's told the South Wales Echo: "Copies of the books are on display both in the local interest section of the Cardiff shop and in true crime. Our staff put books in appropriate parts of the shop where they are likely to be noticed. They are written by a local author, so it makes sense for them to be in the interest section.
"These are legally available books. We don’t believe in censorship or telling people what they are allowed to read. It’s for customers to decide whether they want to buy these books or not."
