Waterstones Deansgate will become Westeros Deansgate today (6th October) to launch Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Waterstones and HarperCollins, George R R Martin's UK publisher, will create an "immersive customer experience" for the "grand" opening of Westeroes Deansgate featuring character cosplayers, a dragon, a Westerosian banquet and knights on horseback who will be fighting in a ‘tourney’ on Police Street, behind the store. The event will take place at 6pm.
Jane Johnson, publishing director at HarperCollins said: “What a brilliant way to launch the wonderful tales of Dunk and Egg into the world. Waterstones Deansgate has always been such a centre of excellence for selling fantasy and science fiction in general and George R R Martin's books in particular.”
Kate McHale, science fiction and fantasy buyer at Waterstones, said: “We’re really thrilled to be launching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms at one of our flagship shops ahead of Super Thursday, one of the biggest publication dates of the year, and to be able to give fans a fantastic Westeros experience (although one you are guaranteed to survive!)."
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms tells the story of a young, naïve but courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall who roams Westeros, with his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg, whose true identity must be hidden from all he and Dunk encounter: for in reality he is Aegon Targaryen, and one day he will be king.
Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, this new book brings together Martin’s three prequel novellas to his ongoing work A Song of Ice and Fire.
