Barnes & Noble has released a new Nook e-reader in the US, which is “waterproof and dustproof.”
The US bookseller said the Nook GlowLight Plus is the company’s first waterproof and dustproof device for “worry free reading anywhere – including the bath and the beach.”
It is unclear whether the e-reader will be sold in the UK, but the device is available in B&N stores across the country and from the retailer’s website for $129.99.
The device will also contain the new “B&N Readouts” feature, which combines Barnes & Noble’s vast content catalogue and deep bookseller knowledge to deliver a daily selection of “addictive and compelling” free one- to five-minute book excerpts and full articles from current issues of popular periodicals for customers.
Fred Argir, chief digital officer at Barnes & Noble, said: “We’re excited to introduce the best ever Nook e-reader to readers across the country, particularly those who have requested a great purpose-built reading device that is both durable and portable. The first waterproof and dustproof Nook is ready to take anywhere, offering an immersive reading experience that can be enjoyed in bed and bright sun given our most advanced display with built-in light.”
Nook sales have been falling in the US for the past few years, with latest figures showing device sales down 40% to $52.4 million for the fourth quarter ending 2nd May.
Kobo released a waterproof e-reader last year.
