BBC1 is to adapt David Walliams’ first book for children, The Boy in the Dress (HarperCollins Children's Books, 2008), into a TV film, the author has announced.
Walliams told his Twitter followers he was “very excited” about the film, which will be aired this Christmas.
Adaptations of Walliams’ books are becoming an annual event after a successful broadcast of "Mr Stink", starring Hugh Bonneville, in 2012, and "Gangsta Granny" last Christmas, with Walliams taking a lead role alongside Robbie Williams and Miranda Hart. Both films were also adapted by the BBC.
Walliams is one of the UK’s most successful children’s authors and The Boy in the Dress has so far sold 452,803 copies, according to Nielsen Bookscan data.
