Walker Books has acquired two standalone titles from YA Book Prize shortlisted author Non Pratt.
Publisher Denise Johnstone-Burt and commissioning editor Annalie Grainger bought the world rights to Truth or Dare, which will be released in 2016, and an unnamed book for publication in 2017, from Jane Finnegan at Lutyens and Rubenstein.
Truth or Dare is told using a dual narrative voice and is about Claire, who is called Faintheart at school because she passed out on the top diving board, and Sef, younger brother to Kamran, who fell from the Lay Valley Viaduct during his post-exam celebrations and ended up paralysed.
When Kamran’s care home is threatened with closure, Claire and Sef set up a vlog called Truth or Dare and encourage followers to copy their dares and donate.
Pratt is also the author of Trouble, which was shortlisted for the YA Book Prize and longlisted for the CILIP Carnegie Medal, and Remix, which will be published in June.
Johnstone-Burt said: “We’re delighted to acquire two new titles from Non. We’re deeply committed to her publishing and believe she’s a unique author within the YA marketplace.”
Grainger added: “Truth or Dare is going to be a wonderful novel - true to Non’s distinctive voice and style. Her teenagers are so real.”
