Walker Books UK has snapped up a new picture book series written “in complete collaboration” by writer Philip Ardagh and illustrator Elissa Elwick.
Deirdre McDermott, picture book publisher at Walker, acquired the world rights to four books in The Little Adventurers series.
The series came to Walker direct from Ardagh and Elwick, who each had contributions in the writing and illustrating. Aimed at four to six-year-olds, the books feature “a little independent troop of adventurers” called Finnegan, Peanut, Floss and Sprat, learning about “the natural world and each other”.
McDermott said: “There are so many things we love about The Little Adventurers’ gentle innocence and attitude of curiosity, along with its eco-message, that will ensure that this series will be great for boys and girls.”
Ardagh has sold more than £1.4m through Nielsen BookScan in the UK and is perhaps best known for the Eddie Dickens series which has been translated into more than 30 languages. Illustrator and writer Elwick’s books include The Princess and the Sleep Stealer (Pan Macmillan Children’s Books).
The first book in the series will be published in the UK in 2016.
