W H Smith has said it expects it’s annual results to be “in line with expectations” when they are released in October.
The chain bookseller and stationer issued a pre-close statement this morning (30th August) saying its Travel business continued to perform “strongly with good sales across all of our channels” while the High Street arm continued to trade in line with expectations, delivering cost savings and margin improvements.
W H Smith opened eight stores in Madrid Terminal 4 earlier this month and six outlets in Rio de Janeiro, bringing its tally of international stores to 286.
“We continue to see further opportunities in the international news, books and convenience travel market,” the retailer said.
On the High Street, the 225-year-old firm “continues to invest in our new store format trials and have developed further our stationery ranges”.
Its annual financial results for the year to 31st August will be released on 11th October and will be “in line with expectations,” it added.
