Audiobook and large-print publisher W F Howes has landed comedy actor Anneka Harry's debut book, Gender Rebels: 50 Influential Cross-Dressers, Impersonators, Name-Changers, and Game-Changers.
Acquiring editor Laura Smith bought exclusive worldwide English language unabridged audio rights to Gender Rebels from Laura MacDougall of United Agents. The audiobook will be released on 1st November 2019 to coincide with the eBook and paperback editions, which will be published by Little A.
"Gender Rebels tells the story of 50 women who fought back against the patriarchy to carve their own paths. Spanning 2,500 years, Harry’s work shines a light on the little-known visionaries in history who have influenced, inspired, and changed the world," reads the synopsis. "From Joan of Arc to marauding eighteenth-century pirates Mary Read and Anne Bonny, to the inspirational soccer-loving Zahra Khoshnavaz in Iran, who risks everything to take her place in the stands."
A writer, comedy actor, presenter, and producer, Harry’s work has been featured on BBC, Channel 4, ITV, BBC Radio 4, and in Stylist and Grazia. She is a dedicated feminist and LGBTQ rights advocate.
Harry said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be working with W.F. Howes on Gender Rebels. This is a dream-team audio collaboration for me, and I can’t wait to bring it to your lugholes!”
Smith added: “Anneka Harry is a one-woman powerhouse who will make you cry with laughter whilst galvanising you into action. Gender Rebels is shaping up to be a very special audiobook.”
