Conran Octopus has commissioned a colouring book inspired by iconic images from British Vogue in the 1950s.
The book, illustrated and authored by Iain R Webb, explores a “glamorous dream wardrobe of luxurious ballgowns and soigné cocktail dresses, smart suits and dramatic accessories”.
Captions will offer fashion and style tips, and are taken from the original pages of Vogue.
Readers will be able to colour in their own cover, with Conran Octopus encouraging people to post artwork to Instagram using the hashtag #voguecolouringbook.
Octopus publisher Alison Starling acquired world rights from Condé Nast’s agent, Julian Alexander of LAW.
Starling said: “It is hugely enjoyable and exciting to be working with Iain and Vogue on this colouring-book-with-a-difference – especially on the eve of British Vogue’s centenary in 2016. With its witty, glamorous illustrations and entertaining captions, plus the aura of the Vogue brand, this is a colouring book set to stand out from the rest. It’s the perfect Christmas present for all those who love fashion, be they 15 or 50.”
Webb said: “I am thrilled to collaborate with Vogue on this amazing project. The Vogue Colouring Book would have been top of my wish list as a young boy (and still is!), and I love that readers can personalise the book by colouring their own cover. Can't wait to see the results on social media.”
Webb is a writer and visiting professor of fashion womenswear at the Royal College of Art. During his career he has been fashion editor of publications including Blitz, the Evening Standard, the Times and Elle, while contributing to various publications including NME, the New York Times and Vogue. He is currently fashion features editor-at-large at Ponystep magazine.
The Vogue Colouring Book will be released on 5th November at £10.
