Virgin signs Irish boxing champion

<p>Virgin Books has acquired the autobiography of Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan.<br /><br />Editorial director Ed Faulkner acquired world rights from James Grant Media to <em>Cyclone: My Story</em>.<br /><br />McGuigan became the Featherweight champion of the world in 1985 and was awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year the same year. A Catholic, McGuigan grew up during the height of Ireland&#39;s Troubles and married his Protestant childhood sweetheart in 1981. Outside the ring he has worked as a boxing analyst and spokesperson, and won ITV1&#39;s &quot;Hell&#39;s Kitchen&quot; in 2007.</p><p>Faulkner said: &quot;I was 11 years old when Barry won the World Featherweight title in 1985 and I vividly remember the enormous excitement throughout the country when he won that fight . . .</p><p>&quot;Ever since then I have been impressed with Barry&rsquo;s intelligent commentary on the sport as well as his calm presence whenever he appears in the media, whether he is discussing boxing, Irish politics or &#39;Hell&rsquo;s Kitchen&#39;. He is truly an inspiration to many.&quot;<br /><br /><em>Cyclone: My Story</em> will be published asa &pound;17.99 hardback in May 2011. </p>
