Virgin buys business book from basketball coach

Ebury Publishing imprint Virgin Books has acquired a “timeless business book” by a basketball coach.

Ed Faulkner, Ebury deputy publishing director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights to Eleven Rings by Phil Jackson from Simon Trewin at WME.

During his career as head coach of the Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers basketball teams, Jackson won more championships than any other coach in the history of professional sports.

In the book, a New York Times bestseller, Jackson will talk about the secrets of mindfulness and team chemistry he learnt while playing for the New York Knicks in the 1970s, his work with basketball players including Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman and Kobe Bryant, and how he “forged successful teams out of teams with players of varying abilities by getting them to trust and perform in sync with each other”

Faulkner said: “More than just a sports book, Eleven Rings is a timeless business book that explores the wellsprings of motivation and competition at the highest levels and about what it takes to bring out the best in ourselves and others.  It contains valuable lessons for everyone and is set to become a classic. We’re delighted to have this on the Virgin Books list."

Eleven Rings, written with Hugh Delehanty, will be published on 5th February 2015 as a £9.99 paperback.
