Virgin Books has signed a book from TV presenter Chris Tarrant, exploring his father's experiences during the Second World War.
Dad's War, which will be published in 2014 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings, retells Major Basil Tarrant's wartime experiences, from landing in France through to winning a Military Cross in Holland.
Virgin Books editorial director Kate Moore bought world rights to the title from Paul Vaughan at PV Media.
Moore said: "The writing balances action with a raw emotion which is immensely moving. It is fuelled by Chris’ admiration for his father, but in truth this is an important book for us all, commemorating the amazing courage shown by so many men and women who gave their lives in battle."
Tarrant said: "I have learnt so much about those who died so that we could be free—so much that I am ashamed about how little I knew. It’s an extraordinary story about an amazing man, written by someone who thought they knew him best."
