Virgin Books has scored the autobiography of Olympic athlete and “I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here” contestant Fatima Whitbread.
Editorial director Kate Moore bought world rights (excluding serialisation) in the title from Juliet Mushens at Peters, Fraser and Dunlop. It will be published in July 2012.
Moore said: "Fatima was the queen of the jungle in 2011, with her appearance on 'I’m A Celebrity' gaining her millions of new fans. Her courage made us all admire her. But reading her memoir, you realise just how extraordinary she is.
"This is the unforgettable story of a true champion, who triumphed against all the odds, and I’m delighted to be publishing it on the Virgin list.’
The title will tell the story of Whitbread’s abusive childhood, her career as a medal-winning javelin thrower, and “what happened when she faded from from the public eye, and her triumphant return”. She appeared on the celebrity jungle show last year.
