Vintage has acquired two debuts, each to be published in spring 2012, with one by a Danish author living in Australia, and the other by an author born in Hong Kong and now living in the US.
Editor Alison Hennessey has bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, for Hello Kitty Must Die by Angela Choi [pictured] from Angharad Kowal at Writers House. Its a satirical novel following young lawyer Fi as she tries to avoid being married off, and is reunited with childhood friend turned serial killer Sean.
Hennessey called it "funny, dark and clever, an absolutely perfect Vintage Original in all respects".
Meanwhile, senior editor Beth Coates bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Australia, Canada and New Zealand, for The Vanishing Act by Mette Jakobsen from Sarah Lutyens of Lutyens and Rubinstein. It tells the story of Minou whose mother has disappeared, and who lives on an isolated island with her philosophy-obsessed father. Coates said: "We're thrilled to be joining an international line-up in publishing this spellbinding debut."
