Vermilion acquires Brené Brown

Penguin Random House imprint Vermilion has acquired a new book by Brené Brown about rising after a fall, called Rising Strong.

Susanna Abbott, Vermilion publishing director, and Cathryn Summerhayes of WME agreed the deal for UK and Commonwealth rights.

Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston who has spent the past 13 years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness and shame. She is also founder and c.e.o. of The Daring Way, an organisation that shares her research with other organisations, schools, communities, and families.

In Rising Strong, Brown is said to draw on her personal experience and research to present a process that encourages people to rise from their falls and face hurt in a way that aims to bring more wisdom and wholeheartedness into their lives. Brown called it “a book about what it takes to get back up and how owning our stories of struggle give us the power to write a daring new ending”.

Abbott said: “I am a huge fan of Brené and her inspiring work and I am immensely proud to be publishing this fantastic book. We are looking forward to working with Brené to make Rising Strong the international bestseller it deserves to be.”

Vermilion will publish Rising Strong on 27th August, when it will be simultaneously published in the US. Brown will visit London in November.

Brown's previous books include Daring Greatly (Portfolio Penguin) and The Gifts of Imperfection (Hazelden).
