HarperCollins has promoted Vikki van Someren to group commercial director. She will be responsible for overseeing the publisher's non-traditional retail business.
Van Someren's new job, in addition to her role as head of creative solutions, will see her report to Simon Johnson, HarperCollins managing director. She will be responsible for setting up commercial partnerships for new and existing non-traditional retailers.
Within her team, Ellie Portch has been promoted to senior creative solutions manager. Karina Boensoe has been promoted to sales executive. The group commercial team is also aiming to hire a group project coordinator. Barry Tavner joins the team this month as a group design manager from Red PR agency where he was senior designer.
Simon Kingsley has been promoted to head of non-trade enterprise from his previous job as key account director for bargain sales. He will report into van Someren and will recruit a sales assistant.
Johnson said: "All creative businesses are looking at developing new channels and platforms to sell content in both physical and digital formats and Vikki will be leading the charge on this, together with our wider sales teams."
During her 18 months as head of creative solutions, van Someren secured deals with Game, where customers could buy copies of George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones in its stores, and a three-way partnership with Waterstone's and the Sunday Times, where the newspaper's readers could buy selected HC titles from Waterstone's for 99p.
