Usborne has bought world rights to a "Stepford Kids-style thriller" by Waterstone's Children's Book Prize nominated author Andrew Taylor.
Senior fiction editor Sarah Stewart bought rights to one book from Catherine Pellegrino of Rogers, Coleridge & White. The Adjusters will be published in summer 2012. The book is about a teenager who moves to a small American town dominated by the mysterious Malcorp Complex and its seemingly perfect population.
Stewart said: "Perfect for the cinema generation, The Adjusters opens with a scene that will haunt me for a very, very long time. Andrew expertly envelops the reader in a fog of unease before unleashing the shocking truth, creating an action-packed brain-wipe thriller that will firmly cement his position as a talent to be reckoned with."
Taylor's debut novel, Meteorite Strike (Usborne) recently won the Heart of Hawick Children's Book Award 2011 and was shortlisted for the Waterstone's Children's Book Prize.
