A leading independent publisher in the US is saying no to the e-book format for one of its big September titles, the latest pushback in the fight over electronic-book pricing, reports the Wall Street Journal. The moves reflects growing concern among US publishers that Amazon.com's $9.99 Kindle price is limiting sales of hardbacks, which typically retail for $25 to $27.
According to the WSJ, the e-book release of Kaleb Nation's Bran Hambric: The Farfield Curse, published by Sourcebooks, will be delayed for at least six months. Sourcebooks chief executive Dominique Raccah said: "Hardcover books have an audience, and we shouldn't cannibalize it." She added that "it doesn't make sense for a new book to be valued at $9.99."
