Tinder Press has acquired two novels by criminal justice solicitor Anna Mazzola at auction for a “healthy sum”.
Publishing director Imogen Taylor bought British and Commonwealth rights to the books from Juliet Mushens at The Agency Group.
Mazzola’s debut novel The Unseeing is set in 1830s London and based on the real case of Sarah Gale, a seamstress and mother sentenced to hang for her alleged role in a murder.
The Unseeing, which will be published in summer 2016, has won awards including the Brixton Bookjam Debut Novel competition, and Mazzola was runner-up in the 2014 Grazia First Chapter competition, judged by Sarah Waters.
Taylor said: “I’m incredibly excited by this novel: it’s intelligent, compelling and is full of twists. It teems with the visceral smells and trappings of Victorian London, and highlights with real dexterity the injustices suffered by innocent women.”
Mushens said: “The Unseeing is a wonderfully gripping and atmospheric crime novel.”
