Previously unpublished fiction by Stieg Larsson is to appear in A Darker Shade, a new anthology of Swedish crime stories to be published in the UK by Head of Zeus.
The editor of A Darker Shade is John-Henri Holmberg who was a personal friend of Stieg Larsson. The anthology will also include stories from Larsson’s long-term partner Eva Gabrielson as well as bestselling Swedish authors Henning Mankell, Per Wahloo and Maj Sjowall.
A Head of Zeus spokesperson told The Bookseller: “When John-Henri discovered that Larsson had written a story that had never been published, it sparked the idea to curate a volume of original stories from the most distinguished Swedish crime authors. Most of the stories are brand new, though a handful have been published in Swedish. None have ever been published in the English language.”
Larsson’s short story is called "Brain Power". No other details about the story have been released.
The anthology will be the first collection of Swedish crime short stories translated into English.
Editorial director Laura Palmer called A Darker Shade “truly exciting”. She said: “Not only is it the first English anthology of the hugely popular genre of Nordic Noir but it contains never-before-published stories from Henning Mankell, Per Wahloo and—the cherry on the cake—Stieg Larsson.”
Palmer bought UK and Commonwealth rights to A Darker Shade from Otto Penzler's Mysterious Press list at Grove in the US. HoZ is the UK publisher of Mysterious Press.
The anthology will be published on 7th January 2014 as part of the worldwide release. The book will be strictly embargoed until publication.
