Unbound to publish Briggs’ The Oldie columns

Unbound is publishing a collection of Raymond Briggs’ writing and illustrations from The Oldie magazine.

Notes from the Sofa is a collection of a decade’s worth of articles and illustrations and traces Briggs’ life from growing up to growing old. Subjects include being evacuated during the war, schooldays in Merton and holidaying in France.

“It’s a huge honour for us to have Raymond Briggs on Unbound,” said Dan Kieran, c.e.o. of Unbound. “He has been a supporter of what we’re doing for a long time and we’re thrilled to be helping him with this project - particularly as it’s a different kind of book about his day-to-day life, thoughts and reflections. It’s incredibly funny, and as ever the illustrations are extraordinary”.

Readers can pay £10 for the e-book, £20 for the hardback, £50 for a 1st edition, or £100 for a piece of signed artwork.

Unbound is a crowdfunded publishing platform launched in 2011 by historian Justin Pollard, TV producer John Mitchinson and author Dan Kieran. Interested readers pledge to pay for the book and the company will only publish when they receive a certain number of pledges.

Briggs, who is also the author of children’s books The Snowman and Father Christmas (Puffin), currently needs 389 more pledges.

Unbound won the best start-up award at FutureBook in 2011.
