Bloomsbury has signed a literary thriller about identical twins from writer Ann Morgan.
Beside Myself follows two twin sisters, Ellie and Helen, who swap places aged six. At first, it is a game, but when Ellie refuses to switch back, Helen is forced into a new identity, developing a host of behavioural problems. As their lives diverge, one twin is headed for stardom, while the other is locked in a spiral of addiction and mental illness.
Publishing director for fiction Helen Garnons-Williams and Lea Beresford at Bloomsbury US signed world English rights from Caroline Hardman at Hardman & Swainson.
Garnons-Williams said: "Beside Myself had me hooked from the very first page: and what a hook it has! Claustrophobic, brilliantly plotted, fantastically accomplished and with an unforgettable narrative voice, this is an incredibly exciting acquisition for the Bloomsbury list."
Beside Myself will be published in hardback and e-book in April 2016.
Morgan is a freelance editor and writer, and an MA graduate in creative writing from UEA. Her first book was the non-fiction Reading the World: Confessions of a Literary Explorer (Harvill Secker), where she read a book from every country in the world.
