Tweeters get House e-book free

Picador is offering the first part of its digital-first fiction The Kills by Richard House free to those who Tweet about it.

The first novel, Sutler, has been published in e-book format, priced £1.99, but readers who send a Tweet or Facebook message to tell others about it can obtain it for nothing. The social media message ("I just got this ebook from @picadorbooks I paid with a tweet! Get one quick #whoissutler") has been scripted by Pan Macmillan, with some space to add an additional comment.

Those who use social media can also obtain a discount code for the second part of the series, The Massive, which is published later this month.

Pan Macmillan reassured readers on its website that there is no catch: "We'd just like you to tell people. And we think you'll like it so much you'll want to read the rest."

Sutler is the first in a series of four books which make up The Kills, with the first three all set in Southern Iraq and around the Middle East, starting with its reconstruction following the Gulf Wars. The novels will be published at monthly intervals.

The four novels will be published in print together in July 2013.
