Treacy-Lord joins Magic Cat from Laurence King

Maria Treacy-Lord is joining the leadership team at children’s independent Magic Cat Publishing from July 2021 as finance and operations director.

Treacy-Lord has more than 20 years’ experience at the helm of major businesses, and joins the start-up from Laurence King Publishing, where, in the same role, she navigated the business for nine years through a period of significant growth and its subsequent sale to Hachette.

She joins Magic Cat, which recently received a nod at the Nibbies for its first year performance, as it relocates to larger offices in Hackney, London, to accommodate a growing team.

Co-founders Jenny Broom and Rachel Williams (pictured) said: “We are very excited to welcome Maria to the team. Her invaluable experience will give us greater scope in our commissioning capacity and allow us to have a renewed focus on our thriving book and game business, which we plan to grow more than 30 titles in 2022.”

Treacy-Lord said: “Rachel and Jenny and the team are bringing fresh new ideas to the world of children’s publishing as an independent—that is great for the industry. I’m really excited to be part of its journey for the future.”
