Transworld readies Reacher digital exclusive

Transworld is to release a digital exclusive Jack Reacher story based on the famous "butt-kicker's" time as a 13-year-old living on a military base.

The publisher said it was the first time it had published a major author in digital exclusive format. Its parent Random House released a short work by Karin Slaughter direct to digital in May.

Second Son will be published globally on 15th August and is listed on Amazon.co.uk at £1.78. In the book Child looks back on an incident in Reacher's teenage years as the younger son of a tough career US Marine on a faraway military base in the Pacific.

Patsy Irwin, publicity director at Transworld, said the novel had been written specifically for digital, and was shorter than the average Jack Reacher book. There were no plans to have it published in print, Irwin added.

Child's latest book Worth Dying For is published in paperback on 4th August 2011 by Bantam Books. The new Jack Reacher thriller The Affair is published on 29th September 2011.
