Transworld has donated 4,000 copies of Our Planet to three schools in London and Middlesbrough.
Written by Alastair Fothergill, Keith Scholey and Fred Pearce, the 320-page title also features a foreword by David Attenborough, and was published in March this year. It is a tie-in for the “Our Planet” TV series which was released on Netflix in April.
"In the spirit of Christmas, and spreading some eco-cheer, Transworld have donated copies of Our Planet, the stunning tie-in book to the internationally acclaimed Netflix series, to schools around the country," the Penguin Random House division said. Around 4,000 copies were donated so that every pupil in the three schools could receive a copy.
Copies were delivered to Penguin Random House’s secondary school partners Barking Abbey in east London, Lilian Bayliss Technology School in Vauxhall, south London, and The King’s Academy in Middlesbrough.
"Students and staff were delighted to be given an early Christmas present of the book," Transworld said. "Every student took home a copy and some teachers were even inspired to design lessons and orchestrate discussions around the book and its themes."
Anne Baird, a teacher at The King’s Academy said: "These are beautiful books and my tutor group thought that Christmas had come early. They really loved them."
Susanna Wadeson, head of non-fiction at Transworld, said: "We are very proud of the Our Planet book, and the Netflix series is standout wonderful too. It is brilliant to be able to share the amazing images, spread some festive cheer and at the same time extend David Attenborough’s important message to some younger readers."
